Pauline Mittelbach
Pauline is a self taught artist who has been painting full time for the past 9 years. She was born in 1949 in England and moved to South Africa in her late teens. She lives in Cape Town, directly under the mountain, where the natural beauty inspires her daily. She has two grown up sons.
Over the years Pauline has always been involved in the creative world and travelled extensively with her husband on movie sets. Her husband was the person who encouraged her to start painting when he bought her, her first canvas and set of oils and she hasn’t been able to stop since.
Pauline also owned for 7 years a Craft Gallery in the waterfront.
She has also been hugely influenced by Audrey Rudnick a well known South African artist. Pauline now runs a successful small B & B and loves meeting people from all over the world. Her paintings are often snapped up by her guests.
She loves painting the African people, “especially women as they have a softness about them brought about by their unique culture.” Pauline goes on to say that “ the people of Africa are all so different and beautiful “ she just can’t get enough of studying and painting them. She actively seeks out people of different cultures to paint
them as expressively as she can. Her painting style is fairly stylized, with bold use of colour.
Her work has sold successfully at the Grahamstown Festival and in various galleries in the Western Cape. Her work has been sold to many locals and her paintings can be found hanging on walls in New Zealand, Australia, Germany and England.
